The Stranger n the Road to Emmaus

What are you living for?

You have a soul. Jesus asked a group of people a startling question. What has a man profited if he were to gain the whole world and lose his own soul? It’s quite a direct question, especially in a world where there is the pursuit of health, wealth and happiness. Think it through. It’s a wise person who sorts out the fundamentals of life before they start living for the incidentals.

Matthew chapter 11 verse 28

- Salvation is a gift we may receive.

“It is by grace you have been saved, through faith”

-It is not a wage we earn.

“This is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.”

-None of us are good enough

“Not a result of works, so that no one can boast.”

The Damascus Road

2000 years ago a man who was fanatically opposed to Christianity was suddenly converted. He had in his pocket letters of authorisation to arrest Christians, and had already given his judgment at their trials when some were executed. He was on his way to Damascus ready to do whatever was necessary to wipe Christianity from the face of the earth.  While on that journey he suddenly came to know that the person he hated so much was the Saviour. He already believed the Bible had promised a saviour, but his whole view of what that saviour would be and do was twisted and warped. Christians had been saying that Jesus had come, not to save from suffering, starvation, oppression, loneliness, depression or any other of man’s problems. The most serious problem was that of the heart. Christ had come to live the life we ought to have lived and then to die bearing the punishment from God we have deserved.

Since that day many others have read what that man wrote as part of the New Testament of the Bible. They have had their own Damascus Road experience. You can hear their personal stories. Click here to see their videos

Is Christianity a matter of faith or facts? One historian in the time of Jesus wrote:

Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, ... it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, ... that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught. Luke’s Gospel - read it yourself.

“Come to me all you who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
